First, decide what size you're looking for, then think about your use case. Based on your use case and the feature below, we should know what boxes would be the best for you.
Once you have filtered out what size you're looking for, features like handle types can help us narrow the selection down further. The three main handles and latches are:
The Traditional T-Handle - The old school T handle.
The Die-Cast Compression latch - The more modern/rounded T handle.
The Paddle Latch - The paddle with the lock under it.
The paddles latches are generally easier to open and close, but the T-handle latches typically provide more compression and security. For commercial applications, we generally recommend either of the T-Latches.
Now that we know what size and latch you're looking for, the product line-up divides into XD, XD Heavy Duty and regular underbody boxes.
The Standard Toolboxes (No XD in the title) use 14ga steel on the boxes and 12ga steel on the doors. Except for stainless doors coming in 16ga and aluminum doors in .100". The standard aluminum boxes use .100" thick diamond tread or smooth aluminum. The hinges are generally 1/4 inch hidden full length and riveted. The door cables are aircraft-grade. These come in white, black, plain smooth aluminum, stainless, and white/black/plain diamond tread.
XD Heavy-Duty generally implies an all-steel box with adjustable door dropdown chains, a 3-point compression latch, and 1/2" welded bullet hinges. The XD heavy duty doors are cross broke for additional strength. If you or your crew is tough on equipment, the XD Heavy-Duty may be the best choice for you. These come in powder-coated black.
The XD series without Heavy-Duty in the title generally implies the more rigid aluminum boxes. They come with thicker .125" aluminum, the 3-point compression latch, bolted-on hinges, and a thicker drop cable. These come in white, black, plain smooth aluminum, and diamond tread door.
Now that you've chosen your size, series, color, or material, the only thing left would be choosing between barn-door or dropdown if it's available.
