NATIONAL TRADESMAN DAY
Somewhere right now, a lineman is up a pole restoring power after a storm, a plumber is elbow deep under a sink, and a mechanic is halfway through a brake job in a shop. None of it makes headlines, but all of it keeps the country running, and that quiet, constant effort is the story behind National Tradesmen Day.
How It Started
The day began fifteen years ago in 2011, and was created to give skilled workers a day that was actually theirs. What started as a single idea has grown into a tradition that businesses, crews, and families across the country mark every third Friday of September.
The Numbers Behind the Work
It is easy to overlook the scale of what tradesmen carry until you look at the numbers. Seven essential trades alone support 5.6 million jobs directly and 11.1 million jobs overall across the country.
Every year the country adds hundreds of thousands of new openings across construction and related trades just to keep pace with demand, and behind every one of those numbers is a person who chose to work with their hands, learn a craft, and build something real.
Investing in the Next Generation
Numbers like that are a reminder that the trades need to keep growing. If these positions go unfilled, the nation could lose an estimated $325.6 million in economic impact and leave 2.8 million jobs vacant by 2030.
Our country depends on the trades to build the future, and that is exactly why we did not want to celebrate this day from the sidelines.
Recently, Elite Truck partnered with Beaufort County Community College to establish an endowment fund that will provide scholarships for students pursuing careers in the trades, built to support students in our community for years to come.
The goal is simple: help the next generation of tradespeople get started without carrying the full weight of paying for it themselves.
We see this as part of the same mission as building the equipment tradesmen rely on every day, because if the trades are the backbone of this country, the least we can do is help build up the people entering them.
